Frequently asked questions
What was your training?
I am a UKCP-registered psychotherapist. I completed my MSc and Clinical Diploma at the Metanoia Institute (validated by Middlesex University), where I undertook a postgraduate program in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy and Applications, graduating with Distinction. This Level 7 qualification represents over five years of intensive academic study, personal development, and substantial supervised clinical practice.
Are you a licensed psychotherapist?
In the UK, psychotherapy is not a "licensed" profession in the way it is in other countries. Instead, we use a system of voluntary professional registration.I am a UKCP-registered psychotherapist. The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body who hold a register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). This means I have met rigorous standards for training (Level 7), clinical hours, and ethical conduct. I am bound by the UKCP Ethical Principles and Code of Professional Conduct, which includes a commitment to regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development.
What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
In the UK, the formal distinction is often taken to be the level of training therapists receive. Counsellors and psychotherapeutic counsellors are typically trained to Level 6 (undergraduate level), while psychotherapists train to Level 7 and above (postgraduate/Master’s level). As a UKCP-registered psychotherapist, my training meets these higher postgraduate requirements. However, in my own practice, I view them as fundamentally the same. Whether I am working with someone for a short period or over several years, my approach does not change. Grounded in the person-centred tradition, my focus remains on the quality of our relationship and your autonomy, regardless of the duration of our work.
